Safety Policy Statement
White Space Facility Services is committed to providing a safe and healthful workplace for every employee, subcontractor, and person affected by our work. Safety is a core operating requirement, not an afterthought. No job is so urgent that it will be performed in an unsafe manner.
We will comply with applicable OSHA standards and other federal, state, and local safety and health requirements. We will identify hazards before work begins, provide the training and equipment needed to control those hazards, and stop work when conditions are unsafe.
This policy applies to all White Space Facility Services operations, including post-construction cleaning, facility maintenance, and work in data-center and technology environments.
Written Commitment
The owner and management of White Space Facility Services commit to:
- Prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, and property damage.
- Provide necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), tools, and training at no cost to employees.
- Maintain equipment in safe working condition.
- Investigate incidents and near misses and correct root causes.
- Review this policy at least annually and whenever operations, equipment, or regulations change.
- Hold every person on a job—including the owner—accountable for following safe work practices.
Safety performance will be considered in work assignments, evaluations, and continued employment.
Responsibilities
Owner / Management
- Establish and maintain this safety policy and the programs that support it.
- Provide resources for training, PPE, first aid, and hazard controls.
- Ensure job-site assessments are completed before work starts (especially for construction dust, chemicals, heights, and live electrical or raised-floor environments).
- Correct unsafe conditions promptly.
- Lead by example and never override a legitimate safety stop-work decision.
Supervisors / Lead Technicians
- Conduct or verify a site-specific hazard review before each job.
- Ensure employees have the required PPE and understand how to use it.
- Enforce safe work practices on the job.
- Report injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Stop work if a serious hazard cannot be controlled.
Employees
- Follow this policy, site rules, and trained procedures.
- Wear required PPE (including respiratory protection when silica, drywall dust, or other airborne hazards are present).
- Inspect tools and equipment before use and remove damaged items from service.
- Report hazards, injuries, and near misses at once.
- Refuse or stop work they reasonably believe is immediately dangerous.
- Do not operate equipment they have not been trained to use.
Subcontractors and Temporary Workers
- Follow this policy and any stricter site-specific rules.
- Provide proof of required training and insurance when requested.
- Report to the White Space lead on site.
Key Hazard Controls (Our Work)
Our work commonly involves construction dust (including silica), chemicals, wet floors, ladders, powered equipment, and sensitive technology spaces. We will:
- Use HEPA-filtered vacuums and appropriate respiratory protection for post-construction and fine-dust work.
- Review chemical labels and manufacturer instructions before using any product.
- Control slips, trips, and falls; use ladders and lifts only as trained.
- Follow site electrical, lockout/tagout, and raised-floor rules in data centers and similar facilities.
- Never introduce unapproved chemicals, moisture, or static-generating materials into white-space or equipment areas.
- Keep emergency exits, fire equipment, and first-aid supplies accessible.
Site-specific rules of a client (especially data-center operators) take precedence when they are stricter than this policy.
Enforcement Approach
- Training — New employees receive safety orientation before independent work. Task-specific training (PPE, silica/dust, chemicals, ladders, client-site rules) is provided before those tasks are assigned. Refresher training is given after incidents, when procedures change, or at least annually.
- Inspection and observation — Supervisors and the owner will observe work practices and correct unsafe acts immediately. Equipment and PPE will be inspected regularly.
- Reporting — Injuries, illnesses, near misses, and hazards must be reported as soon as possible. There will be no retaliation for good-faith reporting or for stopping unsafe work.
- Incident response — Injuries will be evaluated and, when required, recorded. Serious incidents will be investigated to determine cause and preventive action.
- Corrective action — Violations will be addressed promptly:
- First instance (non-serious): coaching and retraining.
- Repeat or willful violation: written warning and possible removal from the job.
- Serious, willful, or life-threatening violation: immediate removal from the site and possible termination.
Enforcement applies equally to employees, leads, and ownership.
Review — This policy and our safety performance will be reviewed at least once a year, after any serious incident, and when we take on new types of work (including data-center white-space contracts).
Employees who have questions about this policy or a specific hazard should raise them with their supervisor or the owner immediately. If a concern is not resolved, they may stop work and request a management review.
This statement is the official safety policy of White Space Facility Services until revised in writing.
